It has been recorded that Limacus flavus display food aversions when the food is suspected to be noxious. The slug Limax flavus (Figure 2(a)) is native to Europe but has been imported throughout the world.To study memory formation in Limax flavus, an odor-avoiding paradigm is used (Yamada et al., 1992).A starved animal is placed in a box lined with carrot juice–moistened filter paper. Lectins from Limax flavus and Triticum vulgaris, both of which have affinity for sialic acid, were antagonists of the various serotypes of botulinum neurotoxin and tetanus toxin. As the common name suggests, this slug is yellow in appearance with grayish-green mottling covering the entire body. The sialic acid binding lectin from the slug, Limax flavus, has also been studied. The base color of the mantle is black or dark gray, and the reticulations are yellow-white in color. The tentacles are often blue. Easily recognisable with its leopard-like spots, the species can grow up to 16cm and is commonly found in parkland, woodland and gardens. The preferred diet of the leopard slug is fungi, dead plant or animal matter making it a useful species to have around.
